min/max word problem?

Suppose that A B C are positive constants and x + y = C. Show that the minimum value of Ax^2 +By^2 occurs when x= BC/(A+B) and
y = AC/(A+B)

i dont get how i would substitute to get a square?
please help?

f(x,y)=Ax^2 +By^2. With y=C-x this reduces to f(x)=(A+B)x^2 -2BCx +BC^2.

f(x) will take it's minimum as f'(x)=0.
f'(x)= 2(A+B) x -2BC = 0 =>
x=BC/(A+B) and y=C-x = C-BC/(A+B) = AC/(A+B)

4. $3 goes into the winners pool where money then accumulates and then a random draw is done and a person wins cash when the max is reached.
5. $2 goes into the charity cash pool where the person on checkout chooses where they want the money to go to and the charity with the most votes when the pool hits its max cash point.
6. when the winners are paid, it starts all over again
7. marketed by word of mouth
8. new products to be added using the same method.
note: the charities approved the site and approved to be affiliated with it

I like it. I think its a very interesting idea. I would create a mini business plan and learn some internet marketing techniques. Word of mouth might not cut it.

You might also think about making it a fundraiser for organizations. For example if it were for a school the kids would sell a ticket to family and friends that would have a code on it. They sell it for $10 and $5 would go to the school and you keep the other $5. The person who bought the ticket then goes online and takes the personality quiz and prints out the results. Then the student gives them their wristband or lapel pin or whatever. That would eliminate any shipping costs as well.

Hope it works it out for you whatever you decide to do.
